Goals – It’s always a big topic this time of year
I’m asking everybody … “what goals do you have for your website?” The most common answer is to increase traffic but should it be? Do you want just any traffic? Or would you prefer targeted traffic? You know, the people who are more likely to buy what you’re selling? Not just the tire kickers.
Take a look at what you’ve been doing to increase traffic and review those strategies to see what worked and what didn’t.
- Are your keywords drawing the right traffic? Did you do the research to find just the right term to draw traffic or did you choose an industry term – one that you and your peers use every day? Your potential clients may not know that term yet so it may not generate the traffic you’d hoped.
- Did you send a newsletter to keep top-of-mind? How was the open and click-through rate? If they were good and no one’s buying take a look at the page(s) and products/services you’re offering. Is the web page clear? Is there enough information on the page for your audience to make a purchase? Is the product/service what people are looking for or have they moved on to bigger and better? There’s so much more to look at than just the newsletter.
- Are you blogging? Providing educational and informative content on a regular basis is critical to helping people make buying decisions. Give them what they need to know to make an informed decision. Then you can use that very same content on your social media channels. No need to keep generating new content – use it wisely.
- Are you dedicating enough resources? Creating and nurturing relationships takes time. We’re all looking for that gym where we can lose 50 pounds overnight. Growing your business is the same thing – you’d like instant results, but it’s not likely to happen. If you’re trying something new you need to give it time to play out and see what happens. Plant the seed, nurture it and help it grow.
